The Brute Short Story Review

The Brute
By Miles Watson

Miles Watson wrote an engrossing monologue about Rose, who grew up on Hog Island, where the government built a shipyard during World War I. Rose became known as The Brute as more workers were brutally murdered. The Brute gleefully embraced their role as the murderer and talked us through their devious plan. I see The Brute as gender neutral because of the distaste with which they spoke of men and women. Come for the deliciously vivid descriptions, stay for the gripping emotional journey.
