Tell Me a Story Babushka is a beautifully illustrated picture book that entwines cruel reality into a princess and monsters tale.

This book has rich illustrations that elevates it above most picture books. It’s easy to just sit and admire the beautiful pictures without reading the book.

A girl asks her Babushka (grandmother) to tell her a story. After agreeing that the story should be about a princess and include monsters, Babushka wove her tale about a little girl whose Ukrainian family was imprisoned in Siberia by monsters. Thanks to a special doll, the princess was rescued and taken to safety.

The story was not told of a mythical land with made-up creatures. Ukraine is prominent in the headlines, which makes this book even more poignant.

I would not recommend reading this book on a black and white device that couldn’t show the vivid colors of the illustrations. I keep going back to this book over and over because of the rich story and stunning illustrations.

Thank you to Reycraft Books and Blackberry Book Tours for providing me a review copy of this beautiful book. Opinions expressed here are my own.
